Polycarbophil

Mechanism :

Restoring a more normal moisture level and providing bulk in the patient's intestinal tract.


Indication :

  • Treatment of constipation or diarrhea

Contraindications :

No contraindications.


Dosing :

6-12 years:
625 mg PO 1-4 times/day.
≥12 years:
1250 mg PO 1-4 times/day.

Adverse Effect :

Gastrointestinal fullness.


Interaction :

Bisphosphonate Derivatives: Calcium Salts may decrease the serum concentration of Bisphosphonate Derivatives.
Calcium Channel Blockers: Calcium Salts may diminish the therapeutic effect of Calcium Channel Blockers.
Calcium Acetate: Calcium Salts may enhance the adverse/toxic effect of Calcium Acetate.
Eltrombopag: Calcium Salts may decrease the serum concentration of Eltrombopag.
Phosphate Supplements: Calcium Salts may decrease the absorption of Phosphate Supplements.
Tetracyclines: Calcium Salts may decrease the serum concentration of Tetracyclines.



Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
