Magnesium Gluconate
Mechanism :
Magnesium gluconate is a cofactor in several enzymatic pathways involved in phosphate transfer reactions that use ATP and other nucleotides as substrates.
Indication :
Contraindications :
• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to drug components
• Contraindicated in hypermagnesemia
• Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment
• Use cautiously in patients with myasthenia gravis
• Use cautiously in patients with neuromuscular disorders
Dosing :
Available as oral tablets: 27 mg and 30 mg.
<6 months:
30 mg/day
6-12 months:
75 mg/day
1-3 years:
80 mg/day
3-8 years:
130 mg/day
8-13 years:
240 mg/day
Adolescent boys 13-18 years:
410 mg/day
Adolescent girls 13-18 years:
360 mg/day
Adolescent girls 13-18 years (pregnancy):
400 mg/day
Adolescent girls 13-18 years(lactating):
360 mg/day
Adverse Effect :
Diarrhea
Lactation :
In the course of breastfeeding, RDA is 310-360 mg/day for adult women. It is secreted in breastmilk.
Hepatic Dose :
No dose adjustments required.
