Ivabradine

Mechanism :

It is a hyperpolarization activated cyclic nucleotide gated channel blocker. It inhibits the SA node resulting in bradycardia. It block HCN channel responsible for cardiac pacemaker that rgulates heart rate.


Indication :

  • Used for symptomatic heart failure

Contraindications :

• Bradycardia

• Bundle branch block

• Hepatic disease

• Driving

• Operating heavy machinery

• Hypotension


Dosing :

Used for symptomatic heart failure:
Infants 6 to 11 months of age:
0.05 mg/kg/dose Per oral twice daily.
Children weighing less than 40 kg:
0.05 mg/kg/dose Per oral twice daily
Children weighing 40 kg or more:
2.5 mg Per oral twice daily.

Interaction :

• Major drug interactions with amiodarone

• Major drug interactions with aprepitant

• Major drug interactions with barbiturates

• Major drug interactions with bosentan


Hepatic Dose :

Contraindicated in patients with hepatic disease
