Ethamsylate
Mechanism :
Ethamsylate is an antihemorrhagic drug. It corrects abnormal platelet adhesion, thereby reducing capillary bleeding.
Indication :
- Hemorrhage from small blood vessels
- Menorrhagia
- Treatment and prevention of periventricular hemorrhage in low birth-weight neonates
Contraindications :
Hypersensitivity to ethamsylate and porphyria are contraindications for its use.
Dosing :
Adults:
250-500 mg PO thrice daily until bleeding stops.
Neonates:
12.5 mg/kg IV every 6 hours.
Adverse Effect :
Hypersensitivity to ethamsylate and porphyria are contraindications for its use.
Nausea, headache, rashes, transient hypotension (with IV administration).
Hepatic Dose :
