Coal Tar

Mechanism :

It is a black, thick, viscous liquid that reduces the thickness of the epidermal layer of the skin.


Indication :

  • 4.25% ointment/Scalp solution
  • Psoriasis
  • Seborrheic dermatitis

Contraindications :

Should not be used in sore, acute or pustular psoriasis or in presence of infection. Avoid applying to eyes, mucosa and broken or inflamed skin.


Dosing :

Creams/lotions:
Apply 1-3 times daily.
Shampoos:
Use once or twice weekly, then repeat if necessary.

Adverse Effect :

Skin irritation and acne-like eruptions, and photosensitivity.


Interaction :

No significant interaction found.



Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
