Calcipotriol

Synonym :

Calcipotriene

Mechanism :

Calcipotriene is a synthetic analog of vitamin D3.
Induces differentiation and suppresses proliferation of keratinocytes.


Indication :

  • Psoriasis

Contraindications :

Contraindicated in those patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the preparation. It should not be used by patients with demonstrated hypercalcemia or evidence of vitamin D toxicity.


Dosing :

0.005% w/v ointment/scalp solution.

All preparations: Apply to affected area in the morning and evening. Do not apply to face.

6-12 years: Maximum 50 g.

Adolescents >12 years: 75 g.

Adults: 100 g.

Scalp solution: weekly. Maximum: 60 ml.


Adverse Effect :

Local irritation, dermatitis, pruritus, erythema and photosensitivity, aggravation of psoriasis.


Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
