Asenapine

Mechanism :

Exact mechanism is unknown. May control psychotic symptoms through antagonism of selected dopamine and serotonin receptors in the CNS.


Indication :

  • Bipolar disorder

Dosing :

Bipolar disorder, Acute manic or mixed episode; monotherapy:
Children ≥10 years and Adolescents ≤17 years: (Sublingual) Initial 2.5 mg twice daily; may double the dose every 3rd day to 10 mg twice daily.

Adverse Effect :

Somnolence, oral hypoesthesia, headache, dizziness, neuroleptic malignant syndrome tardive dyskinesia, hyperglycemia, diabetes mellitus, weight gain, orthostatic hypotension, syncope, leukopenia, neutropenia, QT interval prolongation, hyperprolactinemia, seizures, dysphagia.


Hepatic Dose :

Mild to moderate impairment: No dosage adjustment is required.
Severe impairment: Use is contraindicated.
