What is Eosinophilic gastroenteritis?
Eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE) is an immune mediated chronic inflammatory disease of gastrointestinal disease involving from stomach to the rectum.
What are the symptoms of Eosinophilic gastroenteritis?
Patient usually present with symptoms like difficulty in swallowing, food impaction, chest pain, heart burn, gastritis. Sometimes they also present with obstructive symptoms such as abdominal colicky pain and vomiting. Few patients present with severe symptoms like weight loss, gastrointestinal bleeding, intestinal obstruction
How do we diagnose Eosinophilic gastroenteritis?
Personal or family history of allergies or atopy are contributary in the diagnosis. Gastrointestinal endoscopy and histopathology gives a definite diagnosis.
How do we treat Eosinophilic gastroenteritis?
The main treatment options include diet control and corticosteroids. In patients with history of allergy, gradual elimination of possible food allergens including wheat, egg,milk, nuts, soy, and fish/shell fish is beneficial
