Ganglion

Question :
This is a patient with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis.

What are the swellings seen over the wrist joint?

Discussion :
Ganglion: It is a fluid filled sac, which is usually attached to a tendon sheath in the hand or wrist or connected with an underlying joint. Ganglia are often painless; however, they may cause pain with movement or cause mechanical problems (limiting range of movement) depending on where they are located. They have a tendency to wax and wane in size. It is best left alone. If the ganglion is causing discomfort or mechanical problems, there are two main options for relief: aspiration or surgical removal of the cyst itself.
