Chronic osteomyelitis. It is a severe, persistent, and sometimes incapacitating infection of bone and bone marrow. This disease may result from inadequately treated acute osteomyelitis; trauma, compound fractures; infection with organisms, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Treponema species (syphilis).
