Commercial formalin contains 37 percent formaldehyde and 10 to 155 methanol. It is metabolized to formic acid in liver and blood

Ingestion and inhalation
Mechanism of action :
• Inhalation: burning of eyes, lacrymaton, coughing, constriction of chest and palpitation
• Ingestion: Produces symptoms similar to strong acids
• contact dermatitis
