Thrombin

Mechanism :

It is a naturally occurring coagulant, usually used in conditions associated with bleeding, to stop bleeding. It is applied topically for minor bleeds.


Indication :

  • Control of hemorrhage

Contraindications :

Hypersensitivity to product or any component.


Dosing :

May soak in up to 10 mL of absorbable gelatin sponge and then applied on bleeding surface. Do not inject systemically, can lead to intravascular clotting and death.
Severe bleeding:
Concentrations of 1000-2000 units/mL.
Mild/moderate bleeding:
Concentrations of 100 units/mL.

Adverse Effect :

Skin incision pain, nausea with vomiting, immune hypersensitivity reaction, thromboembolic disorder, antibody formation.
