Setmelanotide

Mechanism :

Melanocortin-4 receptor agonist made to replanish impaired MC4R pathway function affected by genetic variants that occur upstream of the receptor


Indication :

  • In patients with obesity cause of Bardet-Biedl syndrome, leptin receptor deficiency, proopiomelanocortin deficiency.

Contraindications :

No contraindications listed 


Dosing :

≥6 years and <12 years:
Subcutaneously 1 mg once a day for two weeks then adjust dosing based on efficacy.
≥12 years:
Subcutaneously 2 mg once a day for two weeks then adjust dosing based on efficacy.

Adverse Effect :

Depression, Suicidal ideation, priapism, female sexual disorder, skin hyperpigmentation, alopecia, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting

Hepatic Dose :

No significant interactions


Pregnanacy :

Not recommended
