Propantheline
Mechanism :
Propantheline is an anticholinergic agent. It works by decreasing the motion of muscles in the stomach, intestines, and bladder. It also decreases the production of stomach acid.

Contraindications :
If allergic to any ingredient in propantheline
Glaucoma, severe irritation of the esophagus or other serious problems with the esophagus (e.g., esophageal achalasia); a blockage of the stomach, bowel, or bladder; bowel motility problems; severe bowel inflammation (e.g., ulcerative colitis, megacolon); certain muscle problems (e.g., myasthenia gravis); or heart problems with severe bleeding.
Dosing :
2-3 mg/kg/day PO in 4-6 hourly doses.
Adverse Effect :
Xerostomia, decreased sweating, adverse ophthalmic effects (e.g., blurred vision, mydriasis, cycloplegia, increased ocular tension.
Interaction :
Acetaminophen: Interacts.
Morphine: Using morphine together with propantheline can increase the effects of either medication. This can commonly cause dizziness, drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, dry mouth, abdominal cramping, and constipation. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until known how the medications affect. It is important to tell know about all other medications used, including vitamins and herbs.
Hepatic Dose :
Dose adjustment guidelines are not available, dose adjustment may be required. Use with caution.
