Iodine

Mechanism :

It is required for thyroid hormone synthesis; component of thyroid hormones (T3 & T4)



Indication :

  • Used as a trace element in iodine deficient states

Contraindications :

  1. Iodine surplus states or hyperthyroid states
  2. Hypersensitivty to drug and its components

Dosing :

1-8 years of age: 90 mcg/day
8-13 years of age: 120 mcg/day
13-18 years of age: 150 mcg/day

Adverse Effect :

Metallic taste, Fever, Arthralgia Diarrhea, Angioedema, Urticaria

Eosinophilia, Headache, Pulmonary edema, Thyroid suppression, acne


Interaction :

Monitor patients closely on omadacycline and sarecycline


Hepatic Dose :

No specific dose adjustment required
