Gatifloxacin

Mechanism :

Fluoroquinolone antibiotic; antibacterial action results from inhibition of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV


Indication :

  • Bacterial conjuctivitis.

Contraindications :

• not to be injected directly in eye chamber,

• hypersensitivity,

• pregnancy and lactation: can use


Dosing :

0.5% solution:
Day 1: one drop in affected eye every 2 hours, maximum 8 times a day.
Day 2-7: one drop in affected eye 2-4 times daily.
0.3% solution:
Day 1-2: one drop in affected eye every 2 hours, maximum 8 times a day.
Day 3-7: one drop in affected eye 2-4 times daily.

Adverse Effect :

superinfection, hypersensitivity, increased lacrimation, corneal injury with injection in the chamber of the eye, 


Hepatic Dose :

No adjustment needed
