Covaxin (COVID-19 Vaccine)

Mechanism :

It contains 6µg of whole-virion inactivated SARS-CoV-2 antigen.


Indication :

  • For immunisation of individuals ≥18 years old for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Contraindications :

Had a severe allergic reaction after a previous dose of this vaccine.


Dosing :

Two doses of 0.5 ml each administered between 4 weeks apart.

Adverse Effect :

Common: Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, myalgia, arthralgia; injection site pain, tenderness, swelling, erythema, warmth, pruritus, bruising; fatigue, malaise, fever, chills

Uncommon: anaphylaxis, pruritis, rash, hyperhidrosis 

Lactation :

Breast milk excretion is not known. It is currently not recommended to give in lactating mothers.
