Pholcodine

Mechanism :

Pholcodine is a cough suppressant that works selectively on the cough centre in the
brain to control and help stop coughing.


Indication :

  • Relieve dry cough
  • Cough suppressant

Contraindications :

Severe asthma or other serious lung problems.

Child under 6 years of age.

Allergic to pholcodine or any of the other ingredients listed on the packaging of the medicine you have bought.


Dosing :

Do not use this medicine in children under 6 years of age.
>6 years: 0.1-0.25 mg/kg 8 hourly PO.

Adverse Effect :

Shortness of breath, wheezing or difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body, rash, itching or hives on the skin, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and vomiting, stomach pain, constipation.


Interaction :

Alcohol: Pholcodine is known to interact with other drugs like Alcohol.
These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life.



Hepatic Dose :

Contraindicated in severe liver disease.
