Mebeverine

Mechanism :

It is a drug that modifies intestinal motility and is used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome.


Indication :

  • Intestinal cramps

Contraindications :

Not to be used in paralytic ileus. Use with caution in those who react showing angioedema, thrombocytopenia and young children.


Dosing :

Safety and efficacy not established in children <18 years
>3 years:
25 mg orally thrice daily
4-8 years:
50 mg orally thrice daily
9-10 years:
100 mg orally thrice daily
10-18 years:
200 mg orally thrice daily
Give 30 min before meals.

Adverse Effect :

Indigestion or heartburn, constipation, dizziness, insomnia, anorexia, headache, tiredness, bradycardia, maculopapular or urticarial rash and/or itchy skin.


Hepatic Dose :

Use with caution in hepatic impairment although no side effects extensively studied.
