Question
In a child having worm infestation, after having given a full course of antihelminthic (syp vermox), itching in the perianal region persists. What would be the next step of management?
Answer
If the perianal itching persists, one needs to rule out pinworms that are not removed by regular antihelminthic. A stool test and a cellophane test to rule out the same are useful. If pinworms are present, appropriate antihelminthic should be given.
