Question
Sir, in managing a child with viral croup, in case the child is having a moderate to severe croup, can the nebulised budesonide be repeated for a few days as BD dosage and simultaneously can the patient start with oral corticosteroids (prednisolone or dexamethasone)?
Answer
For viral croup, a single dose of IV dexamethasone has been found to be most effective. One may then continue to give adrenaline nebulization. Role of additional steroids in either nebulization form or intravenous route has not been proved.
