Question
My 14-month-old daughters Free T3 level is 2.2pg/ml, TSH is .04uIU/ML, and Free T4 is 3.24NG/DL. When these test results were taken she was on 75mcg of synthroid, no T3 just T4. Recently they have taken her down to 50mcg so if her T3 was already low will it go even lower than 2.2. Should I be concerned?
Answer
This child's TSH was low and hence the dose of synthroid was appropriately lowered.
There is no need for the mother to be concerned as circulating free hormones (fT3, fT4) influence the level of Thyroid-stimulating hormone and not the total t3, t4 as it is measured here.
A measurement of free t3 and free t4 will resolve the issue.
