Question
Is there a condition in which the soft spot on a babies head fails to close and if so what is it called? Can I get information on it anywhere?
Answer
The soft spot on the baby's head is called as Anterior fontanelle. It usually closes by 12-18 months of age. It may close later in children with rickets (i.e. Vitamin D deficiency), Down syndrome, hydrocephalus etc.
