Question
My 9 year old daughter will suddenly become very red faced, tired and complain of chest pain or dizziness. Her blood pressure reading at the ER was 172/82 within a couple of hours she is back to normal and feeling great. This comes on during activities or while doing nothing. We cannot find a rhyme or reason for the rise in BP, any suggestions on what we should be looking at? Or what this may be a sign of? She is an active normally healthy girl.
Answer
A high BP in children may be due to secondary causes such as kidney disease, endocrine problem or a tumor. She needs evaluation for same. Consult a pediatric nephrologist for the same.
