Question
My 11 month old son has mild CP and severe GERD. He has had a Nissen and a G-tube placed 3 months ago. He is still not able to tolerate feeds even through the tube and has not gained more than 1 lb in the 3 month time frame. Once his stomach is full, he presents with color change, pin point pupils, bodily thrashing and involuntary jerking. Everything seems to be blamed on the reflux, but I feel we are missing something. Any suggestions?
Answer
He needs small and frequent feeds. Make sure to give thickened feeds. Also GER should not cause such problems such as thrashing and jerking. Is it a convulsion? Since he is having cerebral palsy underlying epilepsy should be ruled out.
