Question
My nine year old daughter is in end stage renal failure. Her dry weight is 22 she eats nothing more than a box of 12 chicken nuggets a day and wants ice chips as much as possible. I cant find anything that'll tempt her to eat more. She looks so frail and needs to gain weight badly. There's no vegetable she likes and doesn't like potatoes...we're so worried...do you have any suggestions??? We'd be so grateful
Answer
There are special high calorie packaged foods available especially for kidneys patients called as "Pediasure" or "Ensure". They should be available at the chemist or the pharmacist. Each jar consists of 200-300 calories. If she can take 2-3 jars a day in addition to the nuggets that she eats, that should give her enough caloric intake. Just make sure that the packaged meal that you take is the one specially for kidney diseases.
