Question
My one month old son has very painful bowel movements. He frequently wakes up screaming when he has to pass a stool or has bad gas. He also turns red in the face and sometimes whimpers. I can tell that he is in a lot of pain. He is exclusively breast fed and has the yellow seedy stools. Is this normal?
Answer
Does your child have very hard stools. If yes, he definitely has constipation. He needs to be evaluated for the same as constipation in a breast feeding child is not very common. He may even require a mild laxative to help him pass his motions smoothly. A rectal examination by a doctor would be useful.
