Question
My son is 6 years old. He was circumcised at birth. Even now he has to slightly pull his foreskin back to clean his penis, and sometimes, because of his lack of doing so the glands become slightly inflamed. Is it possible that the doctor who performed the circumcision didn't cut enough skin off?
Answer
What your child may have had is partial circumcision. Partial circumcision is usually defined as one in which an insufficient amount of foreskin is removed so as to completely uncover the glands (head) when flaccid (soft). Partial circumcision produces an organ that is less disfigured than one with no foreskin at all, but while what remains of the natural sheath continues to protect the glans in the flaccid state.
