Question
Is it "normal" for a 3 year old, who understands what a parent or grandparent says, to constantly do the opposite of what she is told to do, or not to do it at all?
Answer
Depending upon the temperament of the child, a child may do as the parent says or may even do the opposite. If the child is persistently doing the opposite, find out the cause of conflict. If the parents are too dominating or are constantly scolding the child, the child may not listen to them. Just as punishment is important, even love is as important. What makes the difference is the right action at the right time in the right amount.
