Question
My son is 22months old is having deficiency of factor VIII .Sometimes he bleeds from his nose when he suffers from cold & cough. Please kindly tell me is it related to hemophilia or not?
Answer
Usually hemophilia causes muscular bleed and does not cause nasal bleed until and unless the child has associated Von Willebrands disease. You need to get his platelet function tests to rule out Von Willebrands disease. If the bleed is insignificant just applying pressure and cold packs should suffice. However, if the bleed is more and there is factor deficiency then your son would require factor replacement.
