Question
He has been operated PUV reflux. The functioning of 1 of his kidney is 20% and the other one is functioning 80%. I'm worried. Will he be able to lead a normal healthy and long life? What are the common problems he can face? Please reply soon. -an anxious mother
Answer
Just on the basis of percentage of kidney function, one cannot estimate the quality of life. But from the above mentioned report, one can definitely say that one kidney is not functioning upto its optimal level. However, a person can lead a perfectly normal and healthy life with one kidney also. The quality of your child's life will depend on a lot of factors such as age of the child, renal parameters by blood test, the growth parameters of the child and frequency of repeat infections. If the child has a good growth with normal renal parameters and no repeated infections, the future is bright.
