Question
I want to have information on bronchiolitis obliterans on a 20 months old child.
Answer
Bronchiolitis obliterans is a chronic lung disease whereby the distal bronchus (the air tube that supplies that particular part of the lung is blocked) as a result the function of that lobe of lung decreases. In children the commonest cause is infection with adenovirus infection. It causes bronchiolitis (an acute infection like asthma) which may leave behind a residue such as bronchiolitis obliterans. The other causes are radiation, other infections and drugs and chemotherapy agents. Some cases resolve on their own or some may respond to steroids.
