Question
I have a two-month-old grand daughter who doesn't seem to be able to focus on objects or persons. I seem to remember that my babies would look at the source of sounds at that age, but maybe my memory is inaccurate. This child's eyes are wandering around all the time, and while I held her she did not once look directly at me. Is this normal?
Answer
A 2 month old is usually able to follow an object upto 90 degree. What are her other milestones such as head holding and social smile? If she has achieved those but only does not seem to hear, a hearing evaluation may be required. If she has not achieved her other milestones too, a complete evaluation would be required by a pediatrician so that intervention can be started early.
