Question
Would like to know the problem of Teething in Small Children and what are the possible illnesses that can come in this stage? What are the remedies to the same? Please reply soon.
Answer
Teething is a normal physiological process, and in some cases may be troublesome. Usually this is due to the child's irritability to the stimuli, and inability to express the same which would lead to "problems" during teething. The child maybe irritable, constantly drooling, with a tendency to put everything in sight in the mouth. The drooling is a natural reaction of the mouth to stimuli, and the irritability of the gums. The child's gums should be massaged, gently, with clean fingers, or a teether can be given to the child. The child may sometimes have a mild fever, paracetamol, maybe used to control a low grade fever. If it however persists, you must contact the pediatrician. Sometimes diarrhea is also present, usually when the child puts anything and everything into the mouth. In several cases the teething process passes without the parent's noticing the difference. In either case, the child must be initiated into brushing at this stage. Brushing with a baby toothbrush, or thimble brush, with a touch of toothpaste, twice a day, is a must. A visit to the pediatric dentist is also a good idea, to familiarize the child with the office.
