Question
Can you tell me what it means when your white blood cell count is higher than your red blood cell count in an adult?
Answer
White blood cells are the soldiers of the body that protect our body from the various germs that invade it . Normally the count is between 4000-11000/cumm. Increase in the count is seen in infections. The red blood cells are the cells that carry the oxygen from the lungs to various parts of the body and carbon dioxide from the body back to the lungs. Thus they help to maintain the fuel (oxygen) supply to the body. The RBC count usually varies from 3.5 million to 5.5 million/cumm.
