Question
My daughter is 5 month old, by birth her three fingers (ring, middle & index) are joined together and are under developed (smaller size). Now also we find that the growth of fingers is very slow. Please advice the line of treatment. Thanking you
Answer
Fused fingers are also called as syndactly. They may occur isolated or may be part of a more generalized deformity or part of a syndrome. You have mentioned that the growth of the fingers is very slow, but are the fingers proper in the sense do they have intact bone and only the skin is fused or were the bones also fused and deformed. The treatment is surgical correction of the fused fingers which may be delayed till the child is about 6-9 months of age. Consult your pediatrician regarding the same and when should she be operated so that proper growth of the fingers takes place.
