Question
Dear Doctor, my cousin is 31 yr. old, since childhood he has a problem with his speech. As in place of letter "R" he makes sound like letter "v". What is this problem called in medical terms? Can he be cured and whom he should approach in case of yes? Thanks.
Answer
Your cousin seems to be suffering what is called as articulation disorder or dyslalia. It is a problem where one cannot pronounce words properly or may replace a letter for another letter such as in your cousin who replaces "R" for "V". There are several causes that cause dyslalia and you need to consult a speech therapist to evaluate the cause and to treat the condition. You will get more information on Dyslalia on www.pediatriconcall.com or from the link given below:
