Question
My 4 yr old has a red inflaned anal area. He often has difficulty to pass the motion and this seems to come and go. I wiped him this morning after he passed a motion and there was blood. The motion was hard. but he has had discomfort in the past when the motions were not hard. The area is very red what could be the cause of this?
Answer
It could be due to infection, fungal infection, lactose intolerance or due to constipation itself. Since the motion is very hard and there is blood in stools, fissure should be ruled out. Get him examined by your doctor at the earliest to get him started on the right medicine. In the meantime, give your child some laxative such as milk of magnesia so that his stools become soft and can be passed easily and painlessly.
