Question
Hi, we have just been blessed with a baby daughter. She is ten days old. I am concerned about lumpy swellings on both her breasts. We took her to a Dr yesterday and he said its nothing abnormal and happens due to excess of some hormone in the mother which gets transferred to the baby and that it would take a few weeks for the excess hormone to kind of get out of her system. kindly advice, thanks and god bless.
Answer
It is very common to find breast swellings in newborns. This is indeed due to maternal hormones that may be transferred to the baby during pregnancy. Infact some baby girls may also have secretion of milk from the breast. It is considered a normal phenomenon and subsides on its own within a few weeks. It does not require any treatment. Hope this answers your query.
