Question
My son found jaundice 1 day after he was born---after blood test the billirubin count was 15 ---then the nurse provided him with a lamp and after three days they took the lamp for another blood test .The level was 10. Is it common that the level would go up instead of going down? How long does it take with the lamp treatment to show improvement? Thank you
Answer
The billirubin level seems to be dropping after the phototherapy, so it seems to be fine. The phototherapy can be omitted once the bilirubin is below the danger level. That level depends on the age of the child and the weight.
