Question
My son is 3 months old and my pediatrician has expressed some concern about the lack of growth around my sons head and how small his "soft spot" is. It is the size of the tip of my index finger. He is growing great in all other areas and his hand eye coordination, I feel are above average. He grasps items. Should I be concerned?
Answer
One needs to monitor his head circumference and his developmental milestones. Usually, the soft spot on the head (anterior fontanella) closes around 12-18 months. However, in some instances it may close as early as 6 months. If his developmental milestones are normal and head circumference is maintained, one need not worry about the same.
