Question
My 8 year old daughter was born with an 'anterior anus' which until now has never bothered her. Our GP has referred her to the hospital because it's becoming painful during bowel movement. What can we expect? Will she require surgery? Every professional I talk to has never come across this before & I'm worried sick. Please get in touch, I really need answers to my questions. Melissa
Answer
Anteriorly placed anus is a part of anorectal malformations i.e. some malformation around the anal region. These lead to constipation either mild or severe depending upon the type of malformation. Anteriorly placed anus is a state in which the anus is very close to the vagina. It is "Low" anorectal malformation. The main treatment is treatment of constipation.
