Question
My 9 month old baby seems to have constipation. She has difficulty to pass the motion. However she eats a lot of fruits, vegetables & drinks a lot of water. Could it be because she takes too much iron from spinach, meat/fish & iron fortified cereal? Or is she eating too much food?
Is 3 days of not passing motion normal?
Answer
Some babies may pass stools once a week while some may pass motions 5-6 time a day. That is normal. It is considered as constipation only if the child has painful motions or the motions are too hard. For constipation give food with fiber and make her drink lots of water. If it persists, consult a doctor to rule out other problems.
