Question
My 12 year old daughter has kidney stones, and a recent analysis of them showed that they included a lipid material, but the stones (2) were too small to analyze. What type of stones include a lipid material?
Answer
Renal stones are usually due to calcium, oxalate, uric acid. If the stones cannot be analyzed, one can do 24 hours urine for calcium, oxalate and uric acid.
If lipids are suspected, one can do serum lipid levels and see if it is high.
