Question
Has there been a child as young as six who had any type of surgery to remove a kidney stone after lithotripsy failed? Are the alternatives safe for that age?
Answer
Yes, surgery in the form of pyeloplasty may be required if the stone is large and causing obstruction (STAG HORM CALCULUS). If the stone is damaging the kidney leading to decreased function, surgery would be a better option to preserve the function of the kidney.
