Question
MY 2YR OLD DAUGHTER IS CONSTANTLY COMPLAINING ON PAIN IN HER STOMACH (6 MONTHS OR SO). SHE RECENTLY WAS TREATED FOR A UTI (SHE'S POTTY TRAINED). THE UTI CLEARED UP, BUT SHE'S STILL COMPLAINING OF STOMACH PAIN, BACK PAIN, AND SLIGHT DISCOMFORT WHEN URINATING. THE DOCTOR SCHEDULED A RENAL ULTRASOUND DUE TO THE ABOVE COMPLAINTS. MY DAUGHTER ALSO HAS PROBLEMS WITH HER BOWEL MOVEMENTS, SHE GOES AND IT IS EVERY 2-3 DAYS AND HURTS WHEN SHE DOES. IF THIS TEST DOESN'T SHOW ANYTHING IS THERE ANY OTHER TESTS THAT I SHOULD REQUEST THAT MY DAUGHTERS DOCTOR RUN?
Answer
A UTI in a child less than 5 years of age should not be ignored and an underlying kidney defect should be ruled out. An ultrasound of the kidneys should be done. Read the article on "UTI" on www.pediatriconcall.com for further information:
