Question
My daughter turned four in May, this year. She has mild cerebral palsy and a developmental delay of 18 months. Potty training is difficult for us and I would appreciate your advice. I remove her nappy in the morning leaving her in knickers or nothing in the nice weather, and offering her the potty often. Quite often, she resists but when she does sit, nothing happens. Today she held her wee and stools from 10am until 6pm. When I gave in and put the nappy on her, she laughed at me and let everything go. I am frightened that this will cause a medical problem if she continues to resist. However, the school is encouraging me to train her before reception in January. PLEASE HELP!
Answer
Since you mentioned that your daughter had a developmental delay and mild cerebral palsy, is she going to be admitted to a regular school or a special school? Toilet training is a time of lot of upheaval and it has to be done when the child is ready. Read the article on "TOILET TRAINING" on www.pediatriconcall.com for further details:
