Question
I have a kid almost 2 years old, it's been a month he had shingles (herpes zoster) since his mom got it when being 4 month pregnancy. We already try skin cream and antibiotic syrup, but the disease didn't stop. We've been desperate right now, so please give us your advice as soon as possible how to treat this and if there alternative medicine for our son. Best regards, Rudy.
Answer
Treatment for herpes zoster is a medicine called acyclovir which needs to be given under a doctor's guidance. If it does not respond to that, a drug called foscarnet may be tried. Also, the child is too young to get shingles. One needs to rule out underlying immune deficiency such as HIV or genetic immune deficiency.
