Question
Dear Sir/Madam, My partner is 16 week pregnant and she is 37 years of age. On December 11 2004 she had blood test that showed IGM 5.2 and IGG 127 and a further test on March 14 2005 IGM is 3.6 and IGG 103 Should we be worried with Rubella. Thanks Menghestab
Answer
What is the normal value for Rubella IgM as per your lab? If it is in the normal range, then positive IgG report suggests that she has had rubella vaccine or infection in the past and is now immune to it and risk of transmission to fetus is negligible.
If the IgM level is positive as per your lab standards, then amniocentesis and checking the fetus for infection may be required.
