Question
My wife is 17 weeks pregnant, her rubella Ig G values comes out to be 1.93(positive) and Ig M is negative . Does being Ig G positive can affect our baby? Her age is 27.Thanks and need your suggestion in detail what we have to do or need another laboratory testing.
Answer
Has your wife received MMR vaccine or rubella vaccine? If yes, the positive IgG could be because of that and one may not worry about the baby at all. If she has not received vaccine, it suggests that she had a rubella infection either in the past or the recent past. A repeat test may then be advised after 4 weeks of therapy.
